Jerome Slide Mitigation Project Commences in District 3
In an ongoing commitment to providing exceptional constituent service in District 3, Supervisor Michaels is spearheading the Jerome Slide Mitigation Project. The primary focus is to assist residents in accessing essential services, enhancing their quality of life, and in similar fashion ensuring community well-being and safety.
Addressing Slope Issues in Jerome-Perkinsville Road
A noteworthy endeavor by the Department of Public Works is currently underway in Jerome along Jerome-Perkinsville Road. Specifically the project targets the slopes near the Fire Station, which have exhibited signs of failure and sliding over the years. This poses a significant threat to the integrity of both the sidewalk and the roadway. The free parking area situated below the hill is also in danger.
Board of Supervisors Took Action
On February 17, 2021, the Board of Supervisors, guided by Dan Cherry, the county’s Director of Public Works, approved funding not exceeding $78,520 for a crucial design study. This study marks the initial step toward mitigating the precarious situation. Lyons Engineering and Saguaro GeoServices were selected for the project, responsible for investigating the slope failure, offering mitigation recommendations, presenting alternative design concepts and costs, and producing a bid-ready set of plans for the construction phase.
Efficient Project Funding Through HURF
Funding for this vital project is sourced from the Arizona Highway User Revenue Fund (HURF). Generated at the state level revenue is generated through gasoline and use-fuel taxes, motor-carrier taxes, vehicle-license taxes, motor vehicle registration fees, and miscellaneous fees. The HURF funds play a crucial role in supporting road construction, improvements, and related expenses for cities, towns, and counties.
